Award at the 2011 Kansas Scholastic Art Awards
KAWS Fiberart Awards for the State-wide Scholastic Art juried
show for secondary school art students for 2011. The show was held at The Center
for the Arts in Wichita, Ks, Feb. 7th through March 6th.These KAWS awards were
given to student artists who used fiber in any of the numerous fiber techniques
to create art (functional or non-functional).
(1) "Grandfather Oak" a wonderful pictorial piece with the subject of an old
knarled oak tree. This was done on cloth in Batik and dye and then mounted on
canvas stretchers. It is by Jake Frondorf, a senior from Hutchinson High School.
His teacher is Danah Schremmer.
(2) "Medicine Man" a Sculptured mask made of a split leather football shoe with
stitched embellishments. This piece was done by Nate Rogers, a senior from
Salina South High School. His art teacher is Kurt Wolf.
