KAWS Award at the 2008 Kansas Scholastic Art Awards

The annual Scholastic Arts Awards and Gold Key Ceremony was held at 2:00 pm on February 9th, 2008 at the Wichita Center for the Arts. Mary Sue Foster was our KAWS representative to give out the two awards and certificates. The first award went to Austin Chrans of Truesdale Middle School in Wichita. His piece was a dyed silk, stitched, beaded and embellished wall piece based on circles and containment. This piece was titled "Twenty Five Pieces".  His art teacher was Sherry Waters.

Christi Welch from Altoona Midway High School in Altoona, KS, was the second recipient. She created an outstanding Batik and made it into the form of a large pillow . Her art teacher was Ms. L. Angleton. We are very proud of all of the outstanding fiber works in this years exhibition. We hope that these awards will inspire Kansas art teachers to continue working with students in the fiber arts.
